Focus is the secret key to success in any goals you set for yourself. This may be unpopular at the moment with many people believing in multi-tasking to get more things done. But I have a saying – “Doing many things at once means do many things poorly!”
Let’s use a photo as an example: Photos are so significantly better and clearer when they are in focus – a great result. But when they are out of focus, they are blurry, unrecognizable and not useable. Have you ever had that feeling of disappointment when this has happened? It is why most people now take 4-5 photos of the same thing (re-work). So when the result does not meet the goal or expectation, we have an emotional response due to a lack of focus.
ACTION without FOCUS = EMOTIONAL RESPONSE!
Take a quick second to have an honest checking in on your last failed goal. How did you respond? Blame the camera, rationalise the goal away, give up or continually re-work?? Goal not achieved! Now you know why some people do not set goals in the first place!
HOW TO GET FOCUS
To start with, our goal should be really clear in our minds. So much so that if we were using visualising techniques, we would be using our senses to see, hear, feel, taste and touch the end result. Being in this moment, or being mindful, gives us the clarity to be focused.
Special note: Having clarity is knowing what you want, not what you do not want. Some examples:
- I no longer want to be fat vs I want to be in great health, full of energy and my ideal shape.
- I want to lose weight vs I want to be my best shape.
- I do not want to be sick and unwell vs I love being fit and well.
- I no longer want to be injuried vs I am strong.
In these cases the “focus” is on lack and the limitation and not on abundance and positive outcome. Focus your attention and intentions on those ideals that you want, desire, long for, lust after. Make that focus clear and distinct.
Secondly, as you are doing the actions or tasks to achieve the goal, you need to remain focussed. This is not easy as we can be easily distracted, resulting in no longer being in the moment and losing momentum. So it is so critical to know how you deal with distractions ahead of time, so you can stay focussed.
Life is full of distractions, making it easy to lose focus from your goals and what you really want. This is why focus is the secret key to achieving your goals.
